Anxiety is a common disorder noticed in people of all age groups and classes, in some form or the other, for some reason or the other. It is characterized in two ways, the mental depressions and the physical implications. Mental depressions include complete feelings of panic, hopelessness, paranoia, uncontrollable, obsessive and fearful thoughts plaguing one's mind. The corresponding physical implications include headaches, nausea, muscle tension and stomach aches. Anxiety has a disturbing effect on the human body and tends to disintegrate the human thought system. Recent studies have indicated the ever growing influence of drugs and diets in the treatment of anxiety. Lorazepam, alprazolam, and buspirone, and anti depressants are essential in many acute cases and often psychological help is welcomed too, though unconsciously. Apart from drugs, proteins and carbohydrates, in particular are found to help in abrupt mood swings in a person. Consumption of complex carbohydrates such as found in potatoes result in the increase of serotonin, which has a calming neuro transmitting effect in the human brain. Also, anxiety is sometimes cured by the intake of anti oxidants coupled with moderate amounts of essential fats. Physical trauma, leading to dehydration is often found to accelerate anxiety and raking liquid food helps a lot too. Moderate quantities of hot drinks, such as hot milk, are prominent in this respect especially taken before a good night's sleep. Other vitamin products rich in vitamin B6 are found to help reduce anxiety. Special studies have been undertaken by responsible institutions regarding the specific type of vitamin that has most profound effect. Inositol, a cyclic polyalcohol, takes up the role of a second messenger in the cells of human body. It is found to be really helpful in calming the human body of sudden panic seizures and in the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder. Though technically it can be branded a vitamin, it can be further synthesized by the body, violating the cardinal rule of a vitamin. When taken in liberal amounts, along with multi vitamins, it can reduce anxiety and a feeling of despondence. Nervousness, further, can be treated with magnesium, another of the important ingredients found in many foods. Naturally, for a disorder with as much psychological impact as anxiety, one can expect a herbal treatment or cure. One is not disappointed in this regards, as there are many solutions, namely, Herbal chamomile tea, Passion flower, bacopa and kava. The tea is used especially in fighting the ill effects of insomnia and nervousness. The other three mentioned products are tonics that should be taken in quantities according to doctor's prescription. It helps reduce the ill effects of mood swings and nervousness. A drink made of kava is used in polynesia and is famed for its relaxing effects. But, these herbs have other potential side effects that are not completely diagnosed and hence it is important to take them under proper medical supervision of an experienced doctor. Calorie reduction diet along with diet pills consumption may also cause anxiety disorder. Therefore it is important to start a diet plan under professional guidance. In most people, reducing or cutting out coffee intake show good result for treatment of nervousness and improvement in the levels of anxiety. Alcohol, another substance ill famed for causing depression must also be taken in controlled manner, if anxiety were to be controlled. |
